As much as all of us loved Afroswing and all the amazing moments it gave us we need to be honest and say that the sound hasn’t been as popular as it once was; However, even though theres less mainstream demand many artists are still 10 toes down in the sound and could reignite the scene to where it should be. Today we will be looking at five of those artists.
Bagz:
Bagz was one of the first rappers to we see embrace the Afroswing sound and is an OG in the space. He was introduced to the music when his parents sent him to Nigeria in 2012 to try get him away from the streets. The Hackney man intially created a buzz in late 2015 with Movin Anti and the following year would release one of his strongest tracks, with that being Whatsapp featuring Frisco. Many of his other tracks are on YouTube as reuploads and have been removed from DSP’s by himself as most of his tracks were during his time as a member of the notorius London Fields gang ZT. After getting stabbed in 2016 he decided to leave the gang to focus on music and the next chapter of his life.
Elikem Kofi:
Hailing from Ghana, Elikem Kofi is an artist who definetly has a unique sound. His music consists of a balance of Afrobeats, Dancehall, UK Rap and elements of Gospel and he is able to deliver all this in one track as well as seperately in standalone. His catalogue is strong and goes as far back as 2020. Elikem is someone we see doing big things, especially if hes able to be consistent.
GV:
GV is someone who we’ve had a pleasure to work with multiple times. The ‘melodician’ hails from the borough of Hackney and we pose him to be one of the artists to help revive the sub-genre and take it to where it needs to be. You don’t believe us? In that case you’ll believe co-signs from the likes Nippa as well as industry veterans such as Jermain Jackman & Tiffany Calver
Samzo:
Samzo is someone whose been on our radar for a little minute. The south London artist is definetly one to watch as over the last 5 years he has amassed millions of streams indepently and even got called up to a feature on ZieZie’s Madeira. When Afroswing finally takes over the UK again we’re sure that Samzo have a part to play in it, especially if he can remain consistent.
Rhuder:
This South-London artist feels like buying Bitcoin in 2015. At the time of writing he has only released one track titled Aboki but has teased other tunes on his social media so we have to highlight him for sure. Maybe it’s is a little premature to put him on our radar but its a risk we’re taking nonetheless.
