The Metropolitan Police said Kebatu was detained in the Finsbury Park at around 8.30am this morning.

The refugee who was jailed for 12 months in September for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl and a woman in Epping, Essex, and was serving his sentence at HMP Chelmsford.

However a prison error saw him get released on Friday morning instead of being transferred to an immigration detention centre, prompting the urgent search across the capital.

He boarded a train to London shortly after his release and was later seen on CCTV in Dalston, east London, shortly before 8pm.

A Prison Service officer has now been suspended, while Justice Secretary David Lammy said he was “livid” about the error.
