British teenager Marcus Fakana, 19, has died in the early hours of Friday morning (4th October, 2025) after police tried to stop a vehicle in Tottenham, North London.

The Metropolitan Police said officers attempted to stop a “vehicle of interest” after a short pursuit.

They would lose site of the vehicle before they found it was involved in a collision with another vehicle.

Marcus was previously jailed in Dubai at 18 for having consensual sex with 17 year-old who turned 18 a month after their sexual encounter.

The mother of the girl would see their conversations on social media and report Fakana to Emirati authorities where he was arrested.

He would receive a royal pardon in July from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum after serving a year in a Dubai prison.

Radha Stirling, his lawyer and founder of the Detained in Dubai group, said:

“He was grateful for the compassion shown to him by the British public, and his experiences gave him a renewed focus on Christianity and prayer.

“Marcus was thankful to have regained his freedom and was looking forward to building a positive future.”

Ms Stirling also added:

“Marcus spent the majority of this year in a Dubai prison which no doubt caused him long lasting mental anguish.

“It’s sad that of all of 2025, he was only free for the three months from the 3rd of July until the 3rd of October.”

Marwaan Mohamed Huseen, of Argyle Road, Tottenham, has been charged over the fatal car crash.

The 19-year-old is charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving without a licence and failing to stop.

He appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Saturday where he was remanded into custody.

He will next appear at the Old Bailey on Thursday 30 October.
