Social media commentator Lippy sparked social media uproar by suggesting that black artists in the UK Underground scene “fumbled the underground ting”.

This is in reference to rumours that Liverpool artist EsDeeKid signed to Capitol Records for a whopping $30M:
Many believe that the ‘4 Raws’ hitmaker was signed for such a high sum due to him being white and more marketable to UK and international audiences.
Some disagreed with Lippy saying that non-black musicians have long benefitted from using a ‘Black sound’ for decades and that it isn’t necessarily a ‘Fumble’.
Yeah, a group of 20 year old’s ‘fumbled’ when the entire history of music has shown non-black people with a ‘black’ sound benefitting more than their peers. https://t.co/YixE6eMSUA

Another commentator stated that his analysis was poor due to the fact that some of these artists would likely blow up if they were white.
Really dumb analysis lmao, if them boys weren’t black they’d all have blown https://t.co/BHdGPk5slb

Another X user stated that the real issue isn’t black underground artists fumbling but racism and colourism in the music scene.
“Fumbled” when the real villain is colorism and racism let’s refocus https://t.co/00uTxeAjyQ

What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree with his rhetoric or does the scene have an issue with pushing black music and people.
