Ghanaian international midfielder, Thomas Partey who recently left Arsenal, has appeared in court following a series of serious criminal charges.

He is accused of committing multiple sexual offences against three women between 2021 and 2022, during his time at the Premier League club.

The player was granted conditional bail during a hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today (5 August).

Partey faces five counts of rape, two relating to one woman, three to another, and one count of sexual assault involving a third woman.

All alleged incidents are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022, during Partey’s time at Arsenal. Partey has firmly denied all allegations. His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, stated:

“Denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three‑year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”

Following the expiration of his contract on 30 June 2025, Partey left Arsenal as a free agent.

He is reported to have undergone a medical and is expected to sign a two‑year deal, with a possibility of extension, at La Liga side Villarreal.

His bail terms do not block him from continuing his career in Spain while the legal process continues.

Supporters and critics alike have closely watched developments. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has insisted the club followed appropriate protocols during the ongoing investigation, which began after Partey’s arrest in July 2022.

Under the terms of his bail, Partey is prohibited from contacting any of alleged victims. He must also inform police of any permanent changes to his address and notify them in advance of any international travel.

The case is set to return to court on 2 September at the Old Bailey for trial proceedings.
